God’s Promises…

"While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease." (Gen 8:22)

According to the calendar, spring is almost here. But if I took a picture out the back window of our house, you’d wonder about that. This has been a winter of snow in western Canada, and sometimes we almost wondered if winter would ever end. But I just looked at the fourteen day forecast and it does look like spring might come.

I was thinking of this today. In spite of the many remarks I’ve heard about spring never coming this year, I don’t think I’ve met anybody that seriously doubted it would come. Why? Well, spring always comes. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later, but it always comes.

And so it is with God’s promises. Sometimes we are tempted to doubt them, but in God’s own time, the blessing comes. Are you struggling today? Here are some other promises we can claim.

Do you doubt your salvation?

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)

Are you worried?

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27)

Do you feel weak?

But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

Do you need more faith?

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Are you afraid? The world is full of fear today. Fear of nuclear war. Fear of economic disaster. Fear of an apocalypse. Fear of the mark of the beast. Here is special promise for those who are afraid.

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. (Psalms 46:1-3)

I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
 For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
(Psalms 4:8)
